There are many great restaurants in South Florida and for two months every year The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau showcase the best restaurants Miami has to offer.
So what does that mean for you, a three course prix-fixe lunch or dinner at five-star restaurants like, Emeril’s, Gotham Steak, Mr. Chow, Blue Door at the Delano and many more. Every lunch and dinner includes an appetizer, main course, and dessert. Lunch is $22 and dinner $35.
I think that’s pretty exciting, most of these places are $22 and $35 just for main plates.
Miami Spice starts August 1st and ends on September 30th. Most of these places take reservations, to see a complete list of participating restaurants and make reservation click here.
I plan on hitting up quite a few of these restaurants between August and September. I will be sure to give a full report after my visits.

Any one remember MC Hammer? I loved his songs You Can’t Touch This and Too Lagit to Quit . I had the cassette tape (whoa remember cassette tapes) and I even had an MC Hammer doll. Yes, I’m serious a doll….it was a birthday gift.
I love fashion, but this trend is a bit much for me.
See any resemblance?
Everytime I see a pair of Harem Pants I think of Mc Hammer and The 357 doing the type writer across the stage.
For some reason I thought these pants had quietly made their exit, but when I turned the page of my US Weekly there were not one, or two, but three celebrities shown strutting down the street in these pant….. Oh boy
Some one please find Mr. Hammer and give him his royalties for starting this trend.

I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend and it was filled with great food, family, friends, and fun fireworks. We unfortunately experienced wet weather so no fireworks for me. To get everyone excited for the holiday weekend we through an “indoor” BBQ at work . My contribution to the party was mini cupcake brownie sliders. What’s a picnic without a great burger, right.
I got the idea to make these here . They are very easy to make. The great thing about these mini burgers is, they can be made for any occasion.
Cupcake Brownie Burgers
1 Box of yellow cake mix
1 Box of brownie mix
2 Containers of vanilla frosting
Wilton red, yellow, and green icing colors
Sesame seeds for garnish
Here are a few helpful tips for making these:
– Make it a two day process. Bake your cupcakes and brownies the night before and assemble and decorate the next day.
– If baking the day before, as soon as brownies and cupcakes are finished cover with foil and do not unwrap until you are ready to decorate. Do not refrigerate them. This will keep them nice and moist.
– If possible, purchase pre mixed colored icing. Wilton sells most of their icing in ready-made colors.
– Boil a 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water. If you brush this on top of the cupcakes the sesame seeds will adhere better.
– Last it’s your Burger, have fun with it. Be as creative as you want!

If you are a fan of Bravo‘s Real Housewives series you may be familiar with Kelly Killoren Bensimon. During the season and last nights reunion show, Kelly stirred up a little controversy by making several contradictory statements referring to the organization PETA and wearing fur. Kelly states “She does not support the abuse of animals, but who are they to stop her from wearing fur”
Umm huh !?! Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you have to kill and skin an animal to wear fur? Isn’t that a form of abuse?
I work with similar raw materials on a daily basis, so as the saying goes “those living in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.” I have no issues with Ms. Bensimon, those who wear fur, or those who protest against it. Ultimately you do what you feel is morally and ethically right for you, just do your research, know the facts, pick as side, and stick to it.
The “rather go naked than wear fur” campaign derailed people from wearing fur for years. I’m not sure what changed peoples minds but fur has made a huge comeback. Micheal Kors debuted fur coats and vest for fall 2010 at New York Fashion week earlier this year. Micheal Kors is such an influential designer, one would think he would shy away from such a controversial trend for fear of ridicule. I guess for some wearing fur is simply unnecessary and others it’s about affluence.
What side of the trend fence are you on?

It’s difficult to live in S.Fla and not notice the melting pot of different cultures. The diversity is so influential at some point without realizing it you start to fuse parts of other cultures into your own life.
One of my mom’s favorite desserts is Pasteles De Guayaba or as we americans call them Guava and Cheese pastries. This popular Caribbean dessert is found at most chain grocery stores and latin markets. I have had them several times and thought they were just okay. Then I got this bright idea that maybe she and I could do a better than the grocery stores.
So after 4 hours of trial and error, a little bickering, and some frustration. We conjured up a final product that is truly to die for. It has a tender interior texture with a perfect mixture of guava and cream cheese. Also the simple syrup mixture bakes the crust so flaky it crumbles in your mouth when you bite into it.
But…..let me tell you. The puff pastry we used was such a complete (bleep!) to work with I have vowed to not make these for a long time. So if any one has any tips on working with puff pastry I’m all ears 🙂
They do take a little work but the result is well worth it.
Pasteles De Guayaba
16 oz Cream Cheese
2 Tablespoons Milk
1/4 teaspoon Lemon Juice
1/4 Cup Sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
2 Tablespoons Water
250 grams Guava Paste
Puff Pastry Dough
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Water
Preheat the oven to 350°F
In a bowl, mix together the cream cheese, milk, lemon juice, vanilla, and 1/4 cup of sugar. Mix very well and set aside.
In a separate bowl whisk together the eggs and 2 tablespoons of water.
Slices the guava into thin strips.
Cut the puff pastries into large pieces
In the center of each piece place 1 to 2 strips of guava paste and about 2 tablespoons of cream cheese mixture.
Fold the other half of puff pastry over the filling either making a triangle or square and press closed. Make sure to securely close the sides or the mixture will come oozing out.
Cut three slits in the center.Place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and brush with egg wash and bake 30 minutes. In the mean time, in a small pot, mix the 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
After the pastries have baked for 30 minutes, brush with the sugar syrup and bake for another 6 minutes. Remove from oven and place on a cooling rack.
Let completely cool before eating.
Depending on the size the recipe should yield between 8 to 16

I receive an abundance of e-mails every day. Most of them are from some retailer. While cleaning up my inbox I realized I am a member of 3 (now 4, thanks to J.P.) sample sale websites.
Some of these sites feature really great designers. For example, last year Ideeli featured Christian Louboutin for almost half off the regular price and Louboutin sales are rare.
What is so great about these websites you ask? How about having access to the same sample sales that have been available to those darn lucky New Yorker’s for years and all without having to leave the sofa.
Most of these sites are invitation only but you can always go directly to the website and request a membership. If you want to speed things up a bit the best thing to do is have a friend that’s already a member invite you.
Okay down to business …..Tomorrow at 11am Rue La La will feature Hermes & Chanel, you don’t want to miss this. Here is a sneak peek into tomorrows sale. Good Luck and Happy Shopping!

Let me explain.. About 5 years ago my friend Jenn wanted to visit this restaurant she saw featured on Oprah
Jenn S: “So I saw this place on Oprah the other day that’s suppose to have the best burgers in the United States. Do you know where Hollywood, FL is?”
Jenn B: “Yes, Hollywood is about 10 min from my parent’s house”
Jenn S: “I want to go there”
Jenn B: ” How about we go down to S.Fla for 4th of July and we can visit Le Tub while were there”
Jenn S: “Cool Beans!”
Maybe that wasn’t the exact conversation, but from what I remember it went something like that. So we traveled three hours south to Le Tub to feast on their famous burgers. Well, we never got to eat them because there was a 1 1/2 hour wait for ANYTHING coming from the grill. No matter how delicious and famous the burgers we weren’t willing to wait. After being on Oprah they had become so popular it was impossible to get a burger quickly.
So my thought was, after almost 5 years why not give Le Tub another try, things should be different now….right? Wrong! Even getting there at noon, 1 hour after they opened there was an hour wait for ANYTHING coming from the grill. I didn’t leave this time I stayed to sample the food, which was pretty good. I did get a glance at the burgers of those who were patient enough to wait the hour. It is gigantic and looked rather tasty.
Maybe we will try Le Tub again when Jenn visits in the summer, but I won’t blog about it. Maybe Jenn will blog about our experience on BLANK WHITE FRAMES. Jenn, tag your it!!!!
